Dollar General to Pay $8.5 Million Settlement Over Pricing Errors: How to Claim Your Share
While Dollar General has not admitted to any wrongdoing, they agreed to the payout to end the legal battle, which covers shopping trips made over a nearly nine-year period.
Who is Eligible for a Refund?
You may be eligible for compensation if you shopped at Dollar General between October 10, 2016, and November 19, 2025, and experienced the following:
- You were charged a higher price at the register than what was advertised on the shelf.
- You previously filed a formal complaint about these price differences with the company or a government agency.
How Much Can You Receive?
- Cash Payments: Eligible consumers can receive up to $10 per claim. If you can prove the overcharge was higher than $10, you may be eligible for the full amount of that overcharge.
- Household Limit: There is a limit of two payments per household, meaning the maximum cash compensation is $20.
- In-Store Discount: In addition to the cash, everyone included in the settlement will be able to use a special $3 discount on any purchase of $10 or more. This discount will be valid for two specific days at all stores nationwide, though the exact dates have not yet been announced.
Important Deadlines
If you believe you are part of this settlement, keep these dates in mind:
- Final Approval: The court held a final hearing on March 19, 2026.
- Claim Deadline: You must submit your claim by April 13, 2026, to receive any benefits.
Why This Matters
This case highlights the importance of "price transparency." It serves as a reminder for shoppers to double-check their receipts and report any instances where the price paid at the register does not match the price shown on the shelf.
For millions of Dollar General customers, this settlement offers a way to recover money lost to these pricing errors over the last decade.
