Comcast is paying $117.5 million to settle a lawsuit related to a data breach that happened in October 2023. Hackers accessed Comcast's systems between October 16 and October 19, 2023. The company told customers about the breach in December 2023.

The lawsuit is called Hasson v. Comcast Cable Communications LLC. While Comcast has not admitted to doing anything wrong, the company agreed to settle the case.

Who Can File a Claim?

Not all Comcast or Xfinity customers are eligible. You may qualify if:

  • You received a notice from Comcast around December 18, 2023, informing you that your personal information may have been exposed
  • You were one of the approximately 31.7 million customers who were notified about the breach

The stolen information may have included:

  • Usernames and passwords
  • Contact information
  • Birth dates
  • Partial Social Security numbers

How Much Money Can You Get?

If you qualify, you have a few options:

  1. Reimbursement for expenses – You can claim up to $10,000 for costs directly related to the breach. You will need to provide proof, such as bank statements, receipts, or phone records.

  2. Payment for your time – You can claim up to 5 hours of lost time at $30 per hour (up to $150 total).

  3. Cash payment – You can receive an estimated $50. However, the final amount may change based on how many people file claims and how much goes toward legal and administrative fees.

Additionally, all eligible customers will automatically receive identity protection and restoration services once the settlement is finalized.

How to File a Claim

You can submit your claim online or by mail. The deadline to file is August 14, 2026.

If you received a settlement notice, it should include your class member ID. You will need this ID to file your claim. If you cannot find your ID, you can look it up through the settlement administrator using information from your Comcast account.

What Happens Next?

A court hearing to approve the settlement is scheduled for July 7, 2026. Payments will be sent out after the settlement is approved and any legal appeals are resolved.
