$5.5 Million Settlement Over Recalled Pet Food: What You Need to Know
Who Can Get Money from the Settlement?
You might be able to get money from the settlement if you:
- Bought any Mid America Pet Food products included in the recall
- Had a pet that got sick or died after eating these products
Why Was There a Lawsuit?
People claimed that Mid America Pet Food either knew or should have known about the contamination.
However, they did not warn customers. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) looked into the recall in 2024.
The company has not admitted they did anything wrong, but agreed to pay the settlement to resolve the claims.
How Much Money Could You Get?
If you have proof (like receipts, vet records, or invoices) that your pet was hurt, you could get up to $100,000 for your claim.
If you do not have proof and only submit a statement, you could get:
- $50 if your pet got sick but survived
- $100 if your pet died
You can also get paid back for buying the pet food:
- If you have receipts, you can get the full amount of your loss refunded.
- If you do not have receipts, you can get up to $40 for a maximum of two bags of food per claim.
