IRS Tax Refund Schedule for April 2025: Know When You'll Get Your Money
The tax filing season kicked off on January 27, 2025, allowing people to start receiving their refunds through direct deposit.
The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has shared that most taxpayers can expect their refunds within 10 to 21 days.
However, several factors can change this timing, such as how you filed your taxes (online or on paper) and certain tax credits you might have claimed.
How Does Filing Method Affect Your Refund Time?
- Filing Online and Direct Deposit: This is the quickest way to get your refund, usually taking about 1 to 3 weeks.
- Filing Online and Receiving a Cheque: Expect your refund in about 1 month.
- Filing by Mail with Direct Deposit: This method takes around 3 weeks.
- Filing by Mail with a Cheque: This is the slowest, taking about 2 months.
Why Some Refunds Take Longer
If you've claimed the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) or the Child Tax Credit (CTC), your refund might take a bit longer. The IRS can't issue these refunds until at least mid-February due to specific laws.
When to Expect Your Refund in April?
- Filed on March 17 with Direct Deposit: Your refund should arrive by April 7.
- Filed on March 24 with Direct Deposit: Look out for your refund by April 14.
- Filed on March 31 with Direct Deposit: Your refund is expected by April 21.
- Filing on April 7? You should get your refund by April 28.
Remember, these dates are estimates and your refund could arrive a bit earlier or later. Direct deposit is generally the fastest option, so consider it if you haven’t already filed your taxes.
